Why do we want to legacy behind after we are gone?
I think it is one’s desire not to be forgotton. It could be existing just in the minds of those who are left behind. This is more of a sentiment than legacy.
we remember a person not for the money he has amassed or the houses he has built. we remember a person for the lives he has touched.
A beautiful song or a peice of art or a book which touches you in some way. Some invention or discovery which is to the benefit of mankind, some work that has made world a better place to live in or some action which has created an impact on society.
most of us do not fall in above category of individuals. We lead oridinary lives and think that world rests on our shoulders. We think our contribution will be remembered long after we are gone, but reality is, in most of the cases, we will be forgoton in days or weeks or maximum in a few months but all including our near and dear ones.
Better way is to lead a life where we are truthful to us and others, we are sincere in fulfilling our responsibilities and obligations, put in our est under the circumstances presented to us, continuously try to increase our capability, lead a life which is an example to our children and followers.
Science has said that almost 30% to 40% of our temperament and personality, we transfer to our children thru DNA. That is a better legacy to leave – children who continue doing the good work.
A Legacy may come from one’s character, reputation and the life you lead – setting an example for others and to guide their futures. Legacies often tremendously impact, encourage and leave pathways for future generations.
