Why is the need to Unplug?

Daily writing prompt
How do you know when it’s time to unplug? What do you do to make it happen?

There are many instances when the mind doesn’t work. This happens –

  1. when things do not work out the way you want
  2. when inspite of best efforts, results are not there
  3. when there is so much clutter in mind that you feel like throwing up
  4. When there is so much of work to be done that you end up doing nothing and it leads to stress
  5. when you start questioning the purpose of work and life .
  6. When you are physically tired.

At these times you feel like throwing up, withdrawing, taking some change like going on a holiday or a movie or just chill or sleep whatever works.

For me, sleeping or reading works.

In our hindu belief system, there is a karma theory which says that you are not your body or mind. You are actually a soul which never takes birth nor dies. It changes body.

So mind may entertain any thoughts or conjure up any problems, you just move away and be a spectator. Keep on doing work without being attached either to work or to its result.

This is an ideal state of mind, cannot be followed by most of us. But by combination of yogic exercises, breathing exercises and meditation, to a greater extent, we can do work as our duty, as our responsibility as our karma. We are mindful but not attached.

In this state there is nothing called plug in or plug out. There is no demarcation between work and play, where work is play and play is work.

All the creations of nature work round the clock, round the year. They may take rest which is requirement of body. Mind doesn’t need unplugging.

Though difficult, but in this state your potential becomes limitless.

So why unplug. Go to the source and eliminate the need to unplug.
