I have learnt to write.

Daily writing prompt
What skills or lessons have you learned recently?

By writing I do not mean the writing we usually do. In fact, most of us have forgotten the habit of writing itself. Everything is punched or typed nowadays. In fact, you do not even need to punch. You speak and the device will type it for you.

Gone are the days when we would first inhale the crisp, fresh aroma of new notebook. We would lovingly caress the contours of our pens. Pens were even passed from father to son. Pens were heirlooms and not the single use throwaways like now.

In school days good handwriting was essential and lot of practice was given for it. It was believed that writing improves mind coordination which leads to clarity of mind.

Alas, development has made the art of writing obsolete. Now we write to convey information, then we used to write to convey emotions.

Words are not merely combinations of alphabets. Words are energy. Good words give positive energy, motivation, hope to the reader while negative words do the opposite.

Till few years back, I loved writing and my writing. Purchasing stationery and pens was therapeutic. Gradually, sending emails, texting on mobile took over and one day I realized that there is practically no writing at all. Instead of book, laptop became a companion.

Since last 3-4 months I have again started writing. It finds it is therapeutic, it aids in self-reflection and emotional release.

I have learnt to withdraw myself in my room onto my study table and write for 20 mins or so and I am loving it.

What next?

I want to learn painting pictures with words. I want my writing to evoke a wide range of emotions allowing readers to immerse themselves in different worlds of experiences.
